Ripened by a long summer's sun, whispers of golden grass conceal an unexpected surprise. With a natural air of grace, the lasting scent of Vetiver Veritas is guaranteed by a composition containing over 90% Haitian Vetiver of exceptional quality. Characteristic notes of dry grass and clean earth combine with a hint of fresh mint that infuses life and vitality. But the real surprise is concealed until the base notes fade to a top note of fresh grapefruit.

Made in France

While everyone else is busy trying to purify and prettify the vetiver note, Heeley gives us a fragrance where its savage beauty is on full display. This is an exercise in enhancement, not modification. For the Haitian vetiver note – completely natural and pure – sings at the centre of the stage, whilst a furry texture is imparted by lavender, green grassy freshness is furthered with mint, and in between the folds of this fragrance is the bitter tonic-like edge of grapefruit. Can’t find it? Consider the smell of Campari as your referent – and the fragrance magically undergoes a Gestalt switch.

Malle's Vetiver Extraordinaire - with a little funk

Frederic Malle's Vetiver Extraordinaire is my masterpiece yardstick. Nothing excites and comforts me more than that fragrance. I have never found anything close to it. So, with Vetiver Veritas I was a little apprehensive because the reviews suggested an overly-raw, unenjoyable vegetal beast. This has not been my experience - VV very much has the qualities of Malle's masterpiece - just a step or two back in the evolutionary chain. It is a gorgeous, deep vetiver and definitely more raw than Malle's - but no less exciting. The main difference between the two is the slightly funked (rotten) cut yellow grass angle that sits near the top. Malle shaved this away and produced a smoother experience. Heeley keeps it real. I adore it and it's one of my top 3 blind buys because it's just such a relief to know there's more than one titanic source of this note. Beautiful.
