Night throws its mask over Paris, the City of Light radiating from the splendour of freedom. In the streets, artists and writers capture the games of love and seduction in their modern languages. Champagne flows over crystal pyramids, and the very first jazz bands make the cafe walls tremble. A twirling vanilla vanishes while playing hide-and-seek with vigorous vetiver. There is not a second to lose in moments such as these; everything is possible. The night belongs to those who know how to live it. A seductive night out in the City of Lights - the theatre, dinner, a club or a romantic rendezvous. The heady scent of the hide-and-seek of shadows and light for the nocturnal adventurer.

Made in France

You'll struggle to find a scent as charming and gentlemanly as 1899. This is Hemingway during his Paris years, who famously described the city as a 'moveable feast'. Rightly so, as some of the most memorable scents have gourmand facets.

The herbal-spicy note of juniper berry gives a cool, pine-like feature enlivened with the lingering heat of black pepper. This is joined with the muted heat of cinnamon, made creamy with a sophisticated vanilla note. A vintage mood is then imparted from orange flower, iris, and vetiver, reminiscent of old world colognes. 1899 is a most memorable, intelligently crafted fragrance.

Cinnamon Bomb

Cinnamon is the first thing that jumps out at me, which is livened up with black pepper and juniper and given a lovely tangy bite with bergamot. Vanilla brings out the edible facets and iris lends a final powdery touch. I'm not sure about vetiver or orange blossom, you really have to search for them but I think they add that extra bit of vintage charm. If you want your spices soft and voluminous then this might be just the ticket.

As soon as I sampled ...

As soon as I sampled this I knew I'd found something special. 1899 EDP by Histoire de Parfum stands out from at least 50 others I have tried and has now become very much a go-to scent for me. Doesn't quite last all day but for the scent alone it is well worth the sacrifice. Can't wait to try more from this perfumer.
