Ingenious contrast: the fresh lift of bitter orange against the grounding softness of sandalwood. This dynamic is balanced with green basil, which rounds out the citrusy opening of this fragrance. This trails into a chypre base dominated by wood and moss notes, harnessing incredible quality French cypress, oakmoss, and Australian sandalwood, layering many different types of warmth and faceted with spicy tones. The sandalwood is pure and direct, present but unimposing, this is a dreamy composition – each note clear and distinct and in harmony.

The long and mesmerising horizontal length of creamy and sturdy sandalwood finds its complement in the ascending rise of bitter orange. Senior Perfumer Natalie Gracia-Cetto perfects each respective note in this duet: bitter orange is paired with basil to add variations of colour, texture, and sensation, whilst the sandalwood note is built with the umbrous impact of oakmoss and the cooling charge of cypress. The drydown of Orange x Santal reveals a mesmerising chypre silhouette: dark, sweetly smoky and off-dry. This is a return to classicism and the textbooks of perfumery: begin with exceptional ingredients, and well-trusted combinations. With technical skill and imagination, everything else will follow.
