Everything you want from a Fougere, Captain Fawcett is very quick to reference Fougere Royale (Houbigant, 1882) the original Fougere fragrance. This work is spicy yet cool: a classic revisited in a contemporary light.

I found this to be very similar to Penhaligon's Sartorial. It is creamier than Sartorial because of the sandalwood but not quite the same depth as Sartorial. Sartorial is a little more masculine with the leather and lavender scent.
Sartorial projects more but both have a very long skin life of at least 9 hours. So excellent value.
Capt Fawcett's Original is very nice and clean. I think it is suited to both wearing at work and also at night on a date. I think it is more suited to Autumn, Winter, Spring and fine for milder Summer days and nights.
The EDP is not the same scent as the shave cream/balm/bodywash - which is also a shame because I'd love a Capt Fawcett's EDP in the same scent.
It is 5 stars from me.
