Tauer Lonestar Memories is a rich leather scent, intense and multilayered, with a lasting, soft and gentle woody accord. Inspired by the American West, it is the scent of a lonesome rider, wearing old jeans and a leather jacket, after a long day on the horse in the dry woods, preparing his coffee on the open smoky fire. The green and spicy head notes of Bourbon geranium, woody carrot seed, and ambergris like clary sage lead over to a vibrant smoky chord of leathery heart notes with birch tar, cistus, jasmine and cedar wood. These woody notes prepare for the fine body notes of myrrh, tonka, vetiver and sandalwood.Award: Best Strange Fragrance from Luca Turin (Perfumes: The Guide).

Leather in perfumery is a classic style, from Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather to Knize Ten, and reinvention is the key to its success. Tauer focuses on a bewildering intensity through smoke that softens with wear, contrasting sticky birch tar with the fragrant purity of herbs and resins. A benchmark of the masculine leather genre, Lonestar Memories is the entire picture: leather jackets, well-loved denim, and gritty dry earth. A reminder of why leather scents are just so good.

VINTAGE COWBOY BOOTS

Lonestar Memories EDT: This isn't bad, the smoke and peppery spice is quite prominent. It's a dry musty kind of scent that is very evocative of a vintage pair of cowboy boots you might find in the op-shop. I know this would suit someone, but I am quite glad that I picked a sample because this isn't for me.

The smoke of burning incense, ...

The smoke of burning incense, not from our modern age, but of Byzantium and the East. A burst of birch tar then maquis herbs followed in an hour by vapours of incense, myrrh and dry spice that linger for ten or more hours. Hypnotic, mystical, and rich worn easily in extreme heat. Related to but more bold and dark than L’Air Du Desert Marocain.

Lonestar Memories - smells like a campfire and horse saddle leather

Lonestar Memories is a phenomenal fragrance. It's not just extreme quality to match the pricetag; it's an awesomely crafted and balanced leather rich fragrance. Fragrance is the most subjective of the senses, but when first smelled this, I could hear Ecstasy of the Gold start playing the background. It smells like a campfire in the Arizonan desert with dust and horses' saddle leather to match. This might not be for everyone, but it's my favorite leather driven fragrance by far.
