Ideally use a shaving brush to work up a lather. Apply to beard and wait 2 minutes to allow hair to soften. Shave and rinse. Seal the deal with a dash of Proraso Aftershave Lotion. It is best to shave straight after a shower or hold a hot, wet towel over your face for a few minutes to soften the hairs and reduce the chance of ingrowns and razor bumps.

Fantastic economical shave cream Review by: Cybermonkey 15/07/2017
This was the first shaving cream I tried when converting from cartridge to double edge razor shaving. I bought this as well as a Vulfix 2233 super badger shave brush (awesome, soft, but a little small) and learnt how to make a proper lather. Proraso shave cream is easy to build a lather from and there is quite a bit of leeway with the water to product ratio. I've always found the cream to work well at softening my coarse whiskers and did not realise how well this cream did that until I tried others. The scent is very much to my liking and during the day I find myself trying to fan the odour from my cheeks into my nose so I can continually experience the scent. Although I have found my skin reacts to certain shave soaps/creams I have never had a problem with this one.
Great lather Review by: Robert 8/07/2016
For whatever reason this makes the thickest lather. Better than any of the other proraso products in my opinion.

The scent is a little medical and for me off putting at first but has grown on me and i have become strangely addicted.
Lovin' it Review by: FAZ 12/05/2016
Smells great with a rich creamy texture - perfect for any type of razor it really gets in and makes for a squeaky clean fresh face.
Feel the burn Review by: Rob 3/10/2014
Wowzers, after hearing so many good things about Proraso products, I thought I'd give them a go rather than sticking to the same old Col. Conk Bay rum and TOBS.

The scent is quite nice, I'll give it that, but this product has turned me off trying any other shaving products. I've got a pretty thick and fast growing beard, so thought this would be a great product, however, after trying it, I've never had anything burn like this. It left my face feeling like I'd had chemical burns and I've had to slop moisturiser and aloe all over my face each time I've used it. I wouldn't say it's a very lubricated shave either. It's now 12 hours since my last shave and my face is still raw from it. I'm not sure whether this is an odd tube from the factory, that has an imbalance of something (maybe to much lactic acid?) in it which causes the irritation, or possibly it's only designed for a single pass, but either way I'll be throwing this tube out.

I used it a few times just to see if it was something I'd done, but now after searching the net and finding others that have had the same reaction, I'll be steering clear of it.
Love the scent Review by: Philip 29/04/2014
This cream provides a comfortable shave with a very nice scent. Not quite the best performing cream but good value. i much prefer this to the green tube version of Proraso.
Average quality shave cream beaten by many others Review by: Moran 22/04/2014
Proraso shave creams seem to have a real following but I'm unsure why. Maybe people just stick to it as it's what they know.
I have only recently got into DE razor shaving and as such have been busy sampling a huge variety of shave creams and soaps.
I got given a tube of this Sandalwood Proraso when I bought my lovely Muhle R89.
This cream is at best average. But when you compare it to so many of the excellent creams on the market it really leaves you cold.
It lathers OK, but not better than any others and not as good as many.
It's fragrance is ok but nothing special.
It behaves like an ok cream during the shave but it wasn't a great cushion for the blade and afterwards it has no moisturising properties whatsoever.
The are so many great creams I would recommend well ahead of Proraso. The being Trumpers, Taylors, D R Harris, Acqua Di Parma ( though too $$), Edwin Jagger.
Try any of these and you will not go back to this rather average cream.
Great bang for your buck Review by: Chairman Miaow 16/04/2014
I'm a DE shaver for some years now and have loved trying all the different bits and pieces that make for the most enjoyable part of my day (20 m of peace and quiet!).

The big bang things that really make a difference are the blade and the cream/soap that you use, (IMHO) so I've invested a lot of time and money in trying to find the go to lather. For me it was the TOBS range, loved the lathers, loved the scent. Tried many others but always came back to the old faithfuls. But still... a part of me just loves trying something new so when I saw Proraso had two new creams I climbed aboard the good ship Hope once again.

And wow! Love the pre-shave, but not the green shave cream (too scented, too powerful on the face and didn't lather overly well I thought), but these new creams are excellent.

Both lather like champs and are very forgiving of the water/cream ratio. I put about a pinky nail's worth into the middle of my badger hair and swirl in a warmed bowl. Creamy marshmallow every time. But that's not all. The cream also feels very protective on the face and the blade glides evenly every time.

IMHO it's the equivalent of the TOBS for $10 less. I suspect it will last longer too given the small amount I use each time. The only downside is the relative lack of scent, although the Red does have a subtle sandalwood about it. But that matters not to the performance so I didn't deduct points.

If you're a 3Ts fan, you'll love this.
good stuff Review by: p 8/02/2014
i prefer this cream to the green cream. i don't know if it allows me to cut my wirey whiskers any better than the green but it really does soften them up with good prep. very convenient tube form factor and at only $13.95 it's a steal.
"Hear ye, hear ye!" ... Review by: imphilfish 28/01/2014
First time user of this product and wishing I known about it earlier. I've even got my Grandpa back onto DE & cream. The old ways are sometimes the best!
Great basic cream Review by: Hugh 10/12/2013
Works very well and for the price, really is an outstanding product in my opinion.
Quick lathering and creamy Review by: Dev 16/10/2013
Tried the Proraso Sandalwood Oil and Shea shaving cream and found it lathered very quickly and produced a thick creamy lather that you will appreciate if you are switching from cream out of a can. Doesn't have the zing of the the Menthol one, but has a soft understated pleasant fragrance which will not clash with your cologne. Good size tube, hardy enough for travelling with, but enough to last you at least a couple of months if you shave daily even. Leaves the skin feeling smooth and moist after too.
A good addition Review by: R E 20/08/2013
I haven't found this to lather as easily as the green proraso tube I own, but I like the scent and it still does the job very well. It is a good value alternative cream for when you might not want that cold bite of green proraso eucalyptus oil on your face in colder weather.
Good stuff, will buy again Review by: Steve 21/06/2013
Had some cheap shave cream from Woolies, but didn't like the smell and had trouble getting a decent lather... so decided to try some Proraso. Love the subtle scent of the Sandalwood in this cream, it lathers well, and provides pretty good lubrication.

Good size tube, good value for money, will definitely buy again!
Fantastic! Review by: Daniel 19/06/2013
I have been shaving with a DE for over a year and was having trouble finding something that would give me the ample cushioning and razor glide that I needed for my sensitive skin.
After a week of trying Proraso Red It certainly is the best cream for the job. Initially I wasn't too much of a fan of the sandalwood scent, but after a few goes it has grown on me.
Good value Review by: Hugh 17/05/2013
Makes a great lather with very little effort, and of course it's good value for a large tube.

Personally, I find the scent a little bland, but still quite decent.
Worth checking out Review by: Damien 10/05/2013
I've been using the regular green Proraso for a couple of years now, and decided to give this a go just for a more wintry scent.
The lather comes up a bit more creamy than the green, and leaves less soapy residue on your face when you're done.
Team it up with a good sandalwood aftershave balm (I went with the Geo F Trumper) and you're all set.
Wifeypants likes the smell too, and isn't that what matters?
very nice cheap winter shaving cream Review by: Callum 19/10/2012
i bought this almost a month ago for a good cheap winter cream. and i was extremely surprised. it has a nice subtly smell of sandalwood to it. very very soft and creamy.
if your wanting a good shaving cream for cheap. this is for you. 10/10
Brilliant product Review by: Mosco1000 28/09/2012
I am fairly new to DE Shaving, and have not tried the green tube yet, but out of my humble collection and testers this is the first shaving cream that as a novice I felt a real difference in the shaving experience and really liked the effect it had on the skin. I have coarse whiskers but a really sensitive skin on the left side of the neck (strange I know) with the whiskers covering most of my neck, as a reference. I am really happy with the red tube. With this Proraso I really felt that it provided good protection and razor glyde, and left the skin nicely moisturised, something that other products promise but probably are not as suitable for my skin type. The sandlewood has a pleasand aroma. This with my Bluebeards Revenge which I got a little later have unfortunately become my alternating go to everyday cream which are keeping the rest of the products on the shelf. With summer coming up am looking forward to trying the green tube for extra freshness/cooling effect.

5 out of 5!
Another great Proraso product Review by: GB 14/08/2012
This is a great addition to the Proraso green. It has a natural sandalwood oil scent instead of the menthol kick like the green. At first I thought the scent was too subtle but after a few uses I find it just right. It lathers like a dream and the shea butter feels great on the face. This cream is definitely a winner.
A nice new scent but still the traditional great product Review by: Martyn 21/07/2012
I have used the green for years, and after seeing this for sale overseas I wanted to give it a try. When ordering some more blades I stumbled upon the red being for sale here in Aus now as well!

A nice neutral scent, and not strong or over powering.
A Winner Review by: Roger 16/07/2012
Proraso haven't bought out anything new in decades - then they revamp everything all at once and throw in some new stuff. I still love the Green, so had to try this. I wasn't expecting much other than a decent cream for winter, but I was surprised to find this is excellent. A nice earthy scent and a far thicker lather than the green, and it offers a lot of protection. The Shea butter leaves the face feeling very good too. Worth the wait.
