EDITOR'S NOTES

02

Vetiver Dance (Tauer) is a fragrant study of purifying green: infinite verdant brushstrokes of spicy sweet lily of the valley, the herbal purr of clary sage, and of course vetiver - but a vetiver done differently - a decidedly floral treatment that pivots around its naturally dark and raw earthiness refreshed with grapefruit. Lyric Man (Amouage) is truly a woody rose, fresh yet powerful, and contrasted with enlivening green lime. For a brilliant juxtaposition, consider Jasmin et Cigarette (Etat Libre d'Orange), an unsettling combination where sacred white jasmine and profane tobacco clash, or Naomi Goodsir's Iris Cendre, where florals are set alight, and aristocratic iris root and violet are thrown onto ambery tobacco cinders.

Next, consider some cosmic florals: Tauer's Sotto La Luna Gardenia takes the deeply intoxicating note of intensely buttery gardenia with its facets of wet moss and coffee, and sprinkles it with space dust, and Experimentum Crucis by Etat Libre d'Orange is a rose shot through a Newtonian prism, dispersing it into its many fruity-spicy-floral notes, resting on a peppery patchouli base.
