The DOVO Solingen Shavette Straight Razor uses disposable blades, so there's no need to purchase a hone, strop or any of the other gear. Because it's virtually maintenance free, it's well suited to those who are just starting out, travel regularly or don't want the difficulty and expense usually involved in caring for a traditional straight razor.When the blade gets dull, just remove it and insert a new one. Features an olive wood handle and aluminium shank for lightweight durability. Includes a spare Clear Sleeve and one Double Edge Blade to get you started. Made in Germany.

Carefully slide the sleeve out of the aluminium shank by pulling gently on the far end. Snap your blade in half, open the sleeve and position the blade so that the holes line up with the notches in the sleeve (if positioned correctly, the blade should protrude slightly).

Squeeze the sleeve closed making sure the blade does not move out of position. Carefully slide the sleeve back into the shank of the razor. Use the clear sleeve for standard (short) double edge blades and the black sleeve for the long blades.

Close shaving without breaking the bank

A cheaper alternative to the classic straight razors and a solid beginners choice. The olive hand gives it a nice look and a good feel in hand. Only complaints is the clear sleeve is a little fiddly to place the blade in and the razor itself doesn't come with single edged razor blades.

Impressive Razor

Great feel love the long blades, so light gives great feed back on the shave. The only criticism is the long blade sleeve locating pins being plastic weren't clean cut and took a while to locate blade on the pins after cutting of fingers i cleaned the pins up and the blade clipped straight on. Maybe DOVO could make long sleeve in metal would be awesome.

I think I fell in love with this razor the moment I got it out of the box. It feels very nice in the hand and the Dovo blades are very sharp.
Steep learning curve with using this, the first time I used it I purely shaved my sideburns with no cuts, next time I included my upper lip and lost focused for a sec and cut myself badly. Next time I cut my lower lip bad, the next time I shaved my whole face and neck without a nick, all with the grain.

Great starting instrument

I opened the box and didn't realise that under the bottom foam were the extras. Tried putting long blade into short blade holder, silly me. But instructions would have helped too. I am waiting on a couple of things to arrive I have ordered but did try the long blade out. Found getting hands in right position a little complicating until I watched a couple of YouTube videos which helped clear that up.

I bought this one only because it had a wooden handle, weight feels nice in the hand.

Will write another review when I have used it more, going to try with long and short normal blade to see what works best. But if you are intending to move to a real straight razor then I would suggest sticking with the long blades. Happy shaving everyone. Am very happy with the service from Mensbiz.
