Absolute Rubbish

Ran out of my usual brand, Crabtree and Evelyn, and Professor, thought I'd try something else.
Bought 3 tubs, tried and persisted with it but very poor lather quality using a quality badger brush. Returned all 3 tubs for full refund.
Very poor product compared to the above mentioned brands.

Overpriced, under-performing: barely adequate

I have to agree with many of the opinions stated here. In my opinion it is, at best, an ordinary shave cream.

There are so many better and cheaper options available; anything by Proraso will completely outperform this and is cheaper. Head Slick by Headblade is a similar yet superior product, and is less than half the price.

There are plenty of wonderful creams to try here on this website, so there is no reason to settle for barely adequate :)

For the record, the scent was not an issue for me - it reminded me of toothpaste, which is not a bad thing.

This soap designed for double bladed razors.

To be brief. This soap doesn't really lather. Whilst this is a real disadvantage for those who use Double Edged razors, I don't believe that DE shavers are it's intended audience.
.
One of the issues affecting those who use modern Double Bladed razors is that traditional shave cream accumulates between the blades and causes a clogging effect that defeats the technology inherent in DB shaving. Being largely disposable such blades are not open to cleaning.
.
Upon this basis I am of the opinion that this cream is designed for those who prefer modern DB shaving as opposed to the more traditional DE shaving. Due to the cream being so light and not lathering the cream build up would be greatly reduced thereby allowing the DB technology to work.

Good Product

Got a free sample of Baxter Super Close Shave Formula with another purchase & I wasnt disappointed. Yes it doesnt lather up anywhere near as well as some other brands and yes you definately need a brush to use it but it gives a fantastic shave with my straight razors and doesnt dry out anywhere near as fast as some other top end brands do. I have very sencitive skin especially around my neck and with this stuff my straights just glided over my skin leaving literally no irritation what so ever. All in all I was very impressed with this product & will be ordering a tub. Dont get put off by bad reviews..try it for yourself.

TL;DR - Don't buy it. Stick to other brands.

I bought a Baxter of California straight razor, so decided to purchase this formula with it (along with the aftershave balm which is - contrary to this - fantastic). I've been nothing but disappointed in the 8-10 shaves I've had with it. It's ridiculously hard to lather to any usable form, and once it's applied, it starts to dry much quicker than others. Have tried differing methods of lathering and differing amounts of water, but it either dilutes or is just terrible.

I do like the smell however! (Although many other reviewers have said otherwise... It's a personal taste)

Seriously, for the price, you're much better going with something else (personal favourite is the TOBS range, but *everything* else is better than this stuff), your face will thank you.
