Shapton Glass Stones are known for their exceptional quality, durability and ease of use. Unlike other waterstones, Shapton Glass Stones do not need to be soaked in water before use - simply wet the surface and begin honing your blade.Shapton sharpening stones are made with finely graded ceramic cutting media that requires less flattening and lasts 4-5 times longer than most water stones. The abrasives in glass stones are also extremely uniform, meaning the abrasive encountered with the first pass of a blade will be the same as the 5000th pass. Each stone is comprised of a 5mm tempered glass backing plate fused to a 5mm thick stone. The #4000 grit stone has a particle size of 3.68 microns and is ideal for sharpening a straight razor. Used in combination with the #8000 grit stone, you'll have an edge that you can shave with. We recommend using the Shapton Stone Holder to hold the stone in place when in use.

Shapton Excellence

I have four of the Shapton Glass Stones and am still amazed on the edge that they can produce. There is a bit of drag when using it which is good but what is amazing is that this drag just feels like smooth resistance and the results speak for themselves. I use these to hone straight razors. I sharpened one today after deliberately blunting the edge first to get rid of imperfections and incorrect sharpening. In order used a 2000, 4000, 8000, 16000 then finished on 3 graded strops. Then shaved with it.
The shave was very smooth and clean.
I love these stones! 👍

Not the be all and end all for a cut throat

This is now of 2 stones I own (the other a Shapton 8000).

I am happy with the quality of the result on my kitchen knives but suggest that people also get the 8000 for their cut throats.

A great tool

This stone was my first foray into the world of ceramic sharpening stones and I have not been disappointed. It works very quickly and gives a fantastic final result. You don't have to worry about soaking like a traditional wet stone, just wet it and off you go. My razor has never given a better shave!
