The Merkur Open Comb Base Plate can be used in the Classic, Long Handle Classic, 1904 and 933 razors. Great for tough, coarse or heavy beards, the open tooth head offers more exposure to the blade and is therefore slightly more aggressive than a regular closed comb/safety-bar razor.

Good to try out!

I only started DE shaving about a month ago, when I purchased a Merkur 33C (closed comb). I am still working out my shave routine, and figuring out what works well and what doesn't. The open comb gives a different shaving experience to the closed comb - slightly more aggressive, as the blurb says. I'm still getting my DE routine down pat, but I think this will form part of my regular rotation
