The Merkur 1904 Open Comb Razor is great for tough, coarse or heavy beards. The open tooth head offers more exposure to the blade and is therefore slightly more aggressive than a regular closed comb/safety-bar razor. While this model is best suited to someone with a little experience wielding a double edge razor, there is no reason why it can't be used by a beginner. The handle is otherwise identical to the Merkur 1904 and it comes in a stylish nickel plated finish. Made in Solingen, Germany and covered by a 2 Year Australian Warranty.

the razer has a bit of rust on the inside where u scerw it in. It was a liltle hard 2 screw in also
I used some singer oil that helped
the handle is VERY short i would recomend buying one with a longer handle
it does giive a nice finish tho

I love it's classic styling and the simplicity of the open comb head, which, despite what I had expected, makes for a very mild shave.
The reason I purchased this razor initially was for it's look. Unlike most other razors you'll find the 1904 has a nickel plating which gives it a unique finish. Its not as bright as chrome and has a slightly bronze appearance. The handle also features a nice embossed pattern which adds to the classic style as well as reducing slip.
Overall the 1904 is similar in size and weight to the classic HD but has a more refined feel. The open comb head, I find, is very mild and has a "smooth" quality.
Although one of the least expensive in the Merkur range this is still a high quality razor.
